Differing perceptions of what is public and what is private affect the development of the law in many fields of legal practice. INAUGURAL PATRON'S ADDRESS
JUDGES & THE ACADEMY: DIALOGUE OF THE HARD OF HEARING

    Tuesday, 30 October 2012, 5.30pm
Court-room 1, Level 21, Federal Court of Australia, Sydney

Speaker: Chief Justice Robert French AC, Patron of the Australian Academy of Law.

The things that Judges do and that academics do are different in kind. There is nevertheless a "dialogue" of sorts as Judges refer to academic work and academics review, analyse and criticise the work of the Court and offer syntheses and extrapolate doctrinal developments good and bad. This presentation offers a judicial
perspective on the interaction between legal academic writing and the judicial function.
